Yoga

Be kind to yourself

"Joining Bernadette’s yoga class is the kindest thing I have done for myself.

Why don’t you do the same?"

Fiona - Read more...

Bernadette has developed her own style of yoga over the past 20 years that she has been teaching. She recognises that everyone has varying levels of both physical ability and limitations and is keen to address individual needs, even in a class setting.

A typical class would include centering, warm ups, a balanced range of postures, relaxation, breathing exercises and breathing techniques (pranayama) and concentration techniques - particularly using chakras or energy centres.

Please see times of classes in the top left hand margin. Yoga mats are provided.

She also runs regular workshops for more serious students of yoga. See workshop section above.

The courses are suitable for women who are at least 12 weeks pregnant, whether or not they have any experience of yoga. They take place in Blackheath & Greenwich, with weekend and morning classes available [Further details].

She has also produced a Pregnancy yoga CD so the practice can be followed more frequently.

Some words from Bernadette about this course:

Family yoga. Photo by Helen Ives."If you and your baby enjoyed the yoga for post natal period then why stop now?

Family yoga is a natural progression for little ones with a wider age range from 8 months to 4 years. If your baby is a steady sitter, or crawler, or walker, they will love these classes that are offered for them to do with an adult.

If you are both new to yoga then they will also have great fun with their introduction to yoga.

You can also bring along younger siblings who can watch all the action so that you can spend some quality time with their big brother or sister, without feeling guilty that either child is being neglected - a common emotion if you are a parent of two young ones.

Or perhaps dad, grandma or grandad would like to come along instead or even as well as mum. In fact it could be a whole family experience!!"

There are lots of action packed movements and songs in these classes to stimulate digestion, respiration, circulation, balance and dexterity as well as their listening skills and of course strengthening growing bodies in safe ways. They are also great for developing social interaction.

Introduce your baby or toddler to yoga!

"I can wholeheartedly recommend this fantastic class. Bernadette really engages the little ones  in the yoga activities, using kiddy friendly activities and songs, whilst keeping a very authentic yoga vibe going . . . and it gives you plenty of ideas for repeating the activities at home.

Always very relaxing at the end of the class; Bernadette has a very soothing manner and even the babies and toddlers seem to chill out!"
Sara - Mum and local Midwife

Yoga equipment is provided and, as usual, relaxation to close the class, is an important element.

Do ensure you and your child wear clothes permitting ease of movement - no jeans, zips, belts. Sequences are practiced in bare feet.

Places are limited so, regrettably, reservations cannot be made without payment.

If your child has a favourite doll/teddy with moveable limbs, please bring it along as they can also be useful in introducing babies/toddlers to yoga.
