If you are cared for by Cutty Sark midwifery team, she also takes part,as an active birth specialist, in their informative ante natal classes by sharing some very useful breathing techniques, for various stages of labour, plus a variety of other self help tips for expectant parents.

Mummies massages!

How would you like a relaxing massage in a home environment? Safe in the knowledge that your baby is nearby, with familiar faces around to look after her/him?

You and a group of mums can book me and my healing hands for a minimum of 90 mins. All I need is a separate space to set up. I can then massage each mummy, whilst friends take it in turn to look after the babies.

Each treatment can be for either 35mins or 1hr.

Benefits of antenatal yoga

Results of a study funded by baby charity Tommy's, and published on Pubmed, show that UK researchers have studied effect of Antenatal yoga on pregnant women, finding that it can help reduce the risk of them developing anxiety & depression, and concluding that:

"Antenatal yoga seems to be useful for reducing women's anxieties toward childbirth and preventing increases in depressive symptomatology"

You are entitled to paid time off to attend 'ante natal classes', if your midwife or doctor have recommended them to you.

The course offers suitable and relevant yoga practices to promote a sense of well being during this important time and are an ideal way of practicing an energising, effective, subtle yoga practice, reaping benefits for both mother and unborn child.

Conditions either associated with pregnancy or other on-going health issues are always taken into account so that the emphasis is on what's best for the individual, rather than a "one size fits all" approach.

Along with yoga asanas, there is emphasis on using the breath well, both throughout pregnancy and with a view to applying some techniques to manage labour, as well as practicing movements, positions and visualisation.

Although no-one can say for certain what kind of labour you and your baby will have, I can guarantee that you will learn key practices which will empower you both physically and mentally.

These will give you confidence in your ability to birth your baby, whether this is your first labour experience or not. Bond with your unborn child

Each session always ends with deep relaxation practices, enabling you to unravel and dissolve any knots of mental, emotional and physical tension.

It also gives you the opportunity to bond with your unborn child - particularly important if you don't get much opportunity for this in your day to day life.

These courses are an ideal complement to NCT or parentcraft classes - they do not have the same content, particularly the labour techniques.

Please note: Women can book for part of the course if their baby is due before the end of the course and pay accordingly. And if you want to ensure your labour supporter has some idea of how very useful they could be to you both come to Space & Breath birth rehearsal workshop.

If you answered YES to any of those questions then this workshop can provide exactly what you need.

This intensive half day workshop is suitable for women at least 32 weeks pregnant & their labour supporter(s). Women are also extremely welcome to come alone.

It makes sense for both a woman & her supporter(s) to prepare for labour in the last few weeks of the pregnancy. You will learn a range of accessible, effective & very helpful techniques and strategies, which can enable you both to play active, positive roles in labour. These will increase your confidence and reduce fear and doubt.

A variety of handouts will support the workshop however you are encouraged to continue some of the practices regularly for them to be easily accessble to you both in labour!

Would you like to enjoy a class which helps to revive your energy levels - gently toning muscles and easing joints, yet at the same time being relaxed, informal and fun for your baby as well?

"I have been teaching mum & baby post natal recovery yoga for many years. It is a specialised, supportive approach, taking into account the impact of joint mobility & stretched abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. Also mindful of the nature of delivery, especially, c section, the impact of breast feeding and broken sleep as well as fluctuating hormones.

It is important that women do not feel under pressure to return too soon to a strong practice of yoga or exercise, as what is really required at this time is a gentle, nurturing practice in order to revive strength and energy.

Toddler yoga

Toddler yoga is natural progression from post natal recovery yoga, these courses are suitable for babies at crawling stage and toddlers up to 4 years old.

They include sequences with rhymes and songs, along with movements, which can be shared with mum or adult carer. Stimulating digestion, respiration, circulation, dexterity as well as their listening skills, the classes are also great for developing social interaction.

Baby massage home visits

Baby Yoga, Massage & More! Photo by Helen IvesBaby massage home visits are short courses for adult carers & babies up to the pre-crawling stage, although baby massage can continue well into early childhood, once the techniques have been learnt. It is a unique way of communicating with your baby using the sense of touch-to which babies are extremely receptive. It is especially suitable for prems, C section & low birth weight babies & offers the mutual benefits of relaxation and enjoyment to both baby & carer.

Adults find it is another way of getting to know the baby & become more confident in their handling & ability to nurture their child & to feel more relaxed whilst doing it. For the baby all major body systems are stimulated, including circulatory, respiratory, nervous and digestive. Indeed massage tends to improve the appetite.

A massage manual & oil are provided.

Mummies massages

Please contact Bernadette if your group would like to enjoy a mummy massage morning or afternoon. It is often difficult for mums to have daytime massage treatments, especially if breastfeeding.

Bernadette can come to a group at home and offer full body massage, indian head massage & Reiki in a room nearby whilst other mums in group take turns to care for each baby. This is a great solution to the often complex arrangements that need to be set in place before and even, if, you get the chance to treat yourself and your aching body to some TLC just for you!

Bernadette's Cancellation Policy

A gentle reminder!  So that there is no confusion regarding the cancellation policy, here are the details: 

  • A full 7 days notice is required for all workshop cancellations and 48 hours notice for yoga classes.  There are no refunds for cancellations if the course has already commenced except in extreme circumstances.
  • It is not possible to either carry over missed sessions to a future course, or have a reduction of fees if you take a holiday during a course .
  • If there are exceptional circumstances for unavoidable absences Bernadette may make an exception and sessions may be able to be attended in lieu, so please contact her to enquire 48 hours prior to the absence, or as soon as you are able.
  • Regrettably, apart from exceptional circumstances such as early birth etc; no refunds can be given for non-attendance or cancellations
  • Please note that all bookings are subject to these conditions.
